Maintenance Technician III -Staples Distribution Center- Terre Haute Indiana Staples Connect is focused on our customers and our communities. As a Maintenance Technician III, you will serve as a senior technical resource within the Distribution Center, supporting advanced diagnostics, system reliability, and maintenance excellence across automated equipment, material handling systems, and facility operations. This role plays a critical part in ensuring equipment uptime, safety, and operational efficiency while mentoring and supporting other maintenance technicians. What You’ll Do In addition to performing all responsibilities of a Maintenance Technician II, the Maintenance Technician III will: Advanced Equipment & System Support - Lead advanced troubleshooting, repair, and diagnostics for conveyor systems, automation equipment, electrical systems, and material handling equipment (MHE). - Serve as the technical escalation point for complex mechanical, electrical, and controls?related issues. - Troubleshoot and support PLC?controlled systems, VFDs, servo drives, sensors, encoders, and associated controls (Allen?Bradley preferred). - Identify root causes of recurring equipment failures and implement long?term corrective solutions. Preventive Maintenance & Reliability - Ensure 100% completion of Preventive Maintenance (PM) programs, while recommending improvements to PM strategies to reduce downtime and extend asset life. - Take ownership of assigned critical systems or equipment, acting as a subject matter expert. - Partner with leadership to support continuous improvement and system reliability initiatives. Leadership & Collaboration - Mentor and support Maintenance Technicians I and II through hands?on guidance, troubleshooting support, and knowledge sharing. - Assist with onboarding and training of new maintenance team members. - Maintain strong working relationships across Operations, Engineering, Safety, and Leadership. Project & Vendor Support - Support or lead capital projects, equipment installations, and system upgrades. - Coordinate with vendors and contractors, ensuring work is completed safely, correctly, and to Staples standards. - Validate work quality and confirm operational readiness following installations and repairs. Documentation & Communication - Complete work orders with clear technical detail, including corrective actions and root?cause observations. - Communicate effectively on downtime events, equipment risks, and maintenance priorities. - Lead by example with safety, documentation accuracy, and professionalism. Essential Skills & Experience - High school diploma or GED - 5 years of industrial maintenance experience in a distribution center, manufacturing, or automated environment - Advanced electrical troubleshooting experience ranging from 24V DC to 460V AC (3?phase) - Strong working knowledge of: - Automated conveyor systems and controls - Industrial electrical, electronics, hydraulics, and pneumatics - PLC troubleshooting (Allen?Bradley preferred) - VFDs, motors, sensors, relays, and control circuits - Ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals - Proficiency using electrical diagnostic tools (digital and analog meters) - Ability to complete detailed work orders and documentation - Strong safety mindset and ability to work independently during critical events - Ability to be trained and certified on powered industrial equipment (forklift, EPJ, etc.) Preferred Skills & Experience - Trade school or technical degree (Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics) - Prior experience in a lead or senior maintenance role - Experience supporting automation upgrades or capital installs - Familiarity with reliability or continuous improvement practices - Strong communication skills (written and verbal) Physical & Work Environment Requirements - Ability to work in hot environments (up to 95°F at upper levels) and variable seasonal temperatures - Regular bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching - Continuous standing and/or walking (up to 5 miles daily) - Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and access elevated platforms safely - Ability to work in a moderate noise environment - Availability for overtime, emergency response, and on?call support as business needs require Additional Information - Must pass background check and drug screen - Staples does not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position - Demonstrated regular attendance and reliability required Get great perks. - Full time hours, weekly pay, growth opportunities, and generous paid time off; hiring immediately - 401(k) plan with a company match, full benefits plan and options, and associate resource group - Associate store discount and more perks (discounts on mobile plans, movie tickets, etc.)Full time hours, weekly pay, growth opportunities, and generous paid time off; hiring immediately At Staples, “inclusion” is an action word.
